BOTOX®

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a simple, non-surgical procedure that smooths the deep, persistent lines and wrinkles that develop over time. When injected into the skin Botox will relax the muscles and smoothen out the overlying wrinkles. The most common areas of treatment are in the upper face. These include the horizontal lines seen on the upper forehead when one raises the brows, the vertical lines seen between the brows when one frowns (frown lines), and the crow’s feet seen around the eyes when one smiles.

Botox® is what we call a neuromodulator. This means that it controls nerves to relax the muscles by preventing them from contracting. Botox is the most popular neuromodulator available, has been the most studied, and is cleared for the most number of indications. While the results from Botox injections are significant, it will not radically change your facial appearance. The muscles are simply relaxed, so you can still frown, smile, or look surprised without the wrinkles and creases. Injecting Botox into targeted facial muscles can minimize even the stubborn wrinkles and fine lines, leaving the skin looking smoother and more youthful.

Other neuromodulators include Dysport (abobolutimun toxin), Xeomin (incobolutimun toxin).

What should I expect at after my scheduling my Botox appointment?

Your appointment will start with an in-office consultation where our patient’s meet with our board certified practitioners and expert injectors. During your consultation, our expert injectors will assess your needs and develop a customized treatment plan that will be tailored to our patient’s desired final results. The treatment is fast, simple, and minimally invasive. Botox is then injected into targeted facial muscles using an ultra-fine needle directly into the area being treated.

No anesthesia or downtime is required for Botox injections.

How long does a Botox appointment take?

While treatment time can vary depending on the length of the consultation, a typical Botox treatment can take around 15-20 minutes.

Is there downtime required after getting Botox injections?

No. Recovery time is not required since Botox treatments are non-surgical and do not require anesthesia. Patients are able to return to work or normal daily activities directly after treatment.

Are botox injections “painful”?

Most of our patients cite a ‘quick prick’ sensation like a rubber band snap, which is usually rated as a “1 or 2” on a 1-10 pain scale. You will be no further discomfort after the treatment.

Who is considered a good candidate for Botox?

Botox injections are an ideal treatment for men and women of any age who seek to eliminate fine lines and wrinkles.

When will I see the results?

The effects of Botox Cosmetic start to appear within a few days and continue to improve until their full affect is achieved within 7-14 days of treatment.

How long does Botox last?

While result duration may vary, Botox results typically last anywhere from 3 to 6 months from treatment.  The effects gradually fade over this time and you may begin to notice movement of the forehead or treatment area. Over time the body will naturally metabolize the Botox and the face will return to its pre-treatment state. Patients are able to maintain their results by undergoing periodic maintenance treatments. Maintenance sessions are performed at regular intervals, typically 3-4 times per year.

Is it possible to look natural after Botox injections?

A lot of clients are concerned about not looking natural after having Botox injections. However, botox will not change facial features or alter one’s look; it simply eliminates fine lines and wrinkles. During your initial consultation, our expert injectors discuss the outcome that is desired by the patient. Some patient’s prefer a more “frozen look” and some prefer a more natural look.

Patients with a more natural approach are able to make all forms of facial expressions (minus the wrinkles) after treatment. There is little to no risk of being overdone or “too frozen” if you choose to get Botox from an experienced, qualified injector.

What does it feel to get Botox after the injection is done?

Patients may experience a temporary feeling of swelling or heaviness in treatment area. Side effects are minimal and are short lived, and typically resolve on their own within a few days. Some patients may experience a mild headache or temporary bruising, swelling, redness, or bleeding may occur at injection sites. Most patients experience no side effects and are able to return to daily activities that day.
